Job Summary: The Director of Leadership Development is responsible for designing, implementing, and advancing a comprehensive leadership development strategy that strengthens leadership capability across the healthcare system. This role ensures leaders at all levels—frontline, mid-level, and executive—are equipped to lead in a complex, highly regulated, and patient-centered environment. The Director partners closely with executive leadership, clinical and operational leaders, HR colleagues, and external partners to build a strong leadership pipeline that supports workforce engagement, operational excellence, quality outcomes, and organizational sustainability.

CarolinaEast Physicians is made up of over 150 physicians, and mid-level providers who provide care to patients spanning four eastern North Carolina Counties. We have specialties including Primary Care, Pediatrics, Rheumatology, Cardiology, Pulmonology, Neurology, Podiatry, Endocrinology, Cardiovascular Surgery, Otolaryngology, General Surgery, Oncology, Urology, Physical Medicine and Rehab, Orthopedics, Psychiatry, and Gastroenterology.

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred (Human Resources, Organizational Development, Leadership, Healthcare Administration, or related field).
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in leadership development, organizational development, or talent management.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and delivering leadership development programs in a complex organization.
  • Healthcare experience is strongly preferred, including working with clinical leaders or in a highly regulated environment.
  • Experience supporting leadership development in a multi-site or system-level healthcare organization.
  • Coaching certification or formal executive coaching training.
  • Familiarity with accreditation, quality, and patient safety frameworks in healthcare.
  • Strong understanding of leadership theory, adult learning principles, and change management.
  • Ability to influence and partner effectively with senior leaders, physicians, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Exceptional facilitation, coaching, and communication skills.
  • Data-driven mindset with experience measuring program effectiveness.
  • High level of professionalism, credibility, and emotional intelligence.
